The Beauty Institute is a private training academy located in the heart of Ireland; Athlone, Co.Westmeath. Having first opened its doors in July 2012, The Beauty Institute has gone from strength to strength seeing its student numbers increase annually since. We strive to be Irelands leading provider of beauty, make-up and nail technology courses.
The college offers diploma courses in Beauty Therapy, Holistic Massage, Reflexology, Beautician, Waxing, Make-Up and Spa Therapy accredited by international awarding bodies ITEC and CIBTAC. Please see ‘Our Accreditations’ page for more information on these awarding bodies.
The college is renowned for its make-up artistry and nail technology courses. Our make-up artistry graduates in particular have gone on to work for premium make-up brands such as INGLOT, Bobbi Brown, MAC Cosmetics, Benefit and Clarins.
Our graduates are in high demand and have found themselves entering a vast number of various career options in the beauty industry such as working in local beauty salons, in award-winning spas, as sales representatives for premium skincare brands, as counter managers for premium make-up brands, whilst others have entered the world of self-employment and opened their very own beauty salons and nail bars.
All of the college’s courses are delivered in its state of the art premises, purposefully designed with beauty training in mind. The college boasts spacious rooms and modern design with all of the necessary equipment required by our students.
Class sizes are kept small, with twelve being our maximum number for any of our
courses. This is what makes the college special, and ultimately means that our
students receive the utmost of attention and highest quality of delivery.
Our beauty students also work the world’s number no.1 skincare brand, Dermalogica.
The college has had students travel from all over Ireland; from Donegal to Waterford and everywhere in between to train in our acclaimed courses.

College Director, Emer Dooley
The Beauty Institute is owned and directed by Emer Dooley. Emer began her career as beauty and body therapist having qualified to ITEC, CIBTAC and CIDESCO standards and has been actively working in the industry for over 10 years. Emer is also a qualified Electrologist, Reflexologist and Nail Technician.
Emer went on to work extensively in the make-up industry having worked for
premium skincare and make-up brands like Lancome, Clarins, Smashbox and Estee
Lauder. Emer went on to complete several jobs in TV and media and has worked for TV3 and The Irish Independent. Emer’s nail technology work is also featured regularly in ‘Your Nails’ magazine.
Emer’s passion for teaching others became apparent early on in her career and whilst studying lecturing began work in The Dublin Institute of Beauty.
Completing professional development courses each year, it was easy for Emer to see that there were no beauty training opportunities in the Midlands and surrounding areas. After extensive research and planning, Emer opened The Beauty Institute in 2012 and thanks to the college’s fantastic facilities and high course success rate, it continues to grow from strength to strength.
Lecturer, Aoife O’Donnell
Beauty and Body Therapy Lecturer Aoife O’Donnell is fully qualified in the areas of Beauty Therapy, Body Therapy, Electrology, Sports Therapy, Aromatherapy and
Aoife gained extensive experience working in massage therapy and spas, and went on to own a successful beauty salon. She has worked with premium skincare brands such as YonKa and Skinician.
Aoife has over 11 years’ experience working in the beauty industry and has been
delivering learning with The Beauty Industry since 2012.
Lecturer, Cathy Keane
Beauty and Body Therapy Lecturer Cathy Keane is fully qualified in the areas of BeautyTherapy, Body Therapy, Electrology, Reflexology and Laser Therapy.
Cathy has extensive experience working in holistic therapies and her expertise also includes Indian Head Massage, Hot Stone Therapy, and Reflexology for Cancer Care to name but a few.
Cathy has held positions such as Salon Manager, Head Therapist and Salon Owner. Cathy has over 13 years’ experience in the beauty industry and has delivered learning with The Beauty Industry since 2015.
ITEC is the premier International Awarding Organisation for qualifications in Beauty & Spa, Hairdressing and Complementary Therapy.
ITEC is based in London, United Kingdom and has been offering qualifications since 1947. They have a long and strong history in the industry and their qualifications are well respected by employers around the globe.

CIBTAC is one of the longest established awarding bodies within the health and beauty sector.
CIBTAC are a not-for-profit organisation and re-invest their profits for the benefits of its Centres and members.
CIBTAC’s rigorous examination process ensures all students are well-trained, have the knowledge to safely carry out treatments independently and have the understanding and expertise to start adding their own flair to treatments as soon as they start working.
